Unsatisfactory performance of many of the government programs is attributed to the fact that such Programs are implemented with ‘least or no participation of the local communities’. Towards achieving sustainability and long term success in drinking water programs, REEDS has been working with State Water and Sanitation Mission, Government of Andhra Pradesh and various District Water and Sanitation Committees since 2005 in carrying effective awareness programs among rural communities.
Carried campaigns for creation of awareness among user community on Operation & Maintenance of Drinking Water Schemes under Swajaldhara at 400 specified Schemes in 1836 villages spread across 5 districts in Andhra Pradesh.
The objective and scope of the campaign is: "Sensitizing and awareness creation among user community and other stake holders on Swajaldhara Schemes operation, maintenance and management on the matters that include technical, water quality, sustainability of water resources, collection and utilization of funds, and crisis and conflict management in specified Schemes/GPs."
It is again a matter of satisfaction to REEDS for attaining the status of ‘Organization which has carried such campaign in highest number of Gram Panchayats’ in Andhra Pradesh even in this program.
